Kala Ghoda Arts Festival Map Design․
In collaboration with Aahana Miller
The Kala Ghoda area in Mumbai has a critical mass of art galleries, museums, and cultural spaces. The addition of outdoor pavement galleries and heritage architecture, makes the area a veritable ‘Urban Museum’. The commission involved the design of a playful map of the district, to be printed in the 100,000 program guides disseminated to Kala Ghoda Arts Festival visitors. The map has also been published in architect Abha Narain Lambah's book, 'Kala Ghoda : Celebrating Mumbai's Art District'.
The commission expanded into a small scale design-build project - the conception of a parking vestibule to synergize the existing components and functions in the area. This project is the first of many that hope to animate and make possible the use of interstitial spaces of the district, such as pavements, parking lots, side alleys, quadrangles in the buildings, etc. This not only brings art into the communal domain, but also introduces these spaces as architecture to the public realm.
